The Nintendo Switch is nearly upon us.  Within a few short months, Nintendo will be releasing their latest next-gen console, the Nintendo Switch.  This article will break down what we know so far as well as provide you information how you could enter a free Nintendo switch giveaway.

First things first, let’s talk about the Nintendo Switch and what we know so far…

transparent-switchOn October 20th, 2016, Nintendo finally revealed information pertaining to their next-gen console code named the NX.  While not a ton of information was revealed, the world was introduced to the name and a teaser video describing the new console.  By now we know the name of the new console is called the Nintendo Switch, and while do not have an exact release date, we are hearing it will be available for purchase in March of 2017.  Unfortunately details like the hardware specs have been limited as well as the actual retail price.  Below is what we know thus far.

The Nintendo Switch is a hybrid home and portable console.  From the trailer Nintendo released introducing us to the Switch, we can see that the player has their Switch docked to a unit connected to a television.  Later, the user gets up, removes the Switch from the dock, slides in the Joy-Con controllers and is able to continue playing the same game on the go.  This is the biggest selling point for this new console.  While Nintendo tried to introduce us to portability in the Wii U controller, it was met with disappointment.  Nintendo has obviously learned its lesson in the Switch development as this new console looks to be pretty sweet for home and mobile gaming.

When it comes to games, the Nintendo Switch might appear to be taking a step back in time.  All of the current generation consoles today have made the move to optical media such as DVD and Blu-ray.  Nintendo is going back to a cartridge type of system with the Switch.  Don’t get this confused with the cartridges of the NES or N64 though, these are high end cartridges that can store upwards of 32 GB of data.  With that much storage on what is potentially flash based media, I have a feeling the Nintendo Switch will not be sacrificing anything and might actually get improved load times.  This will also help keep the battery life longer when using the Nintendo Switch as a portable device due to the lack of a spinning disk.

The Nintendo Switch will allow for multiplayer gaming when docked as well as while on the go.  Looking at the Joy-Con remotes, two people can each have one of the sides of the remotes to play multiplayer games.  It also appears that if you have multiple Switch consoles, that they can sync to one another for at least four player gaming.  This is shown during the introduction video when the users are playing a basketball game with two consoles near one another.

When it comes to the portable console display, the Nintendo Switch has a seven inch screen.  This screen is a slight increase when compared to that of the Wii U controller’s screen.  The screen also does not appear to have any type of touch screen functionality from what we have seen in the trailer.  Nothing has really be mentioned about this this far so we could very well be wrong until additional information is released.  In terms of graphics, we do know that NVIDIA is the company Nintendo chose to go with for the Nintendo Switch.

When it comes to games, not a whole lot is known thus far except that Nintendo already has 48 publishers on board to create content for the Nintendo Switch. Companies such as EA, Bethesda, Activision, Sega, Konami and Capcom have confirmed to be on that list.  From the introduction video we did see a few games including Zelda, Mario Kart, Skyrim, and what appears to be an NBA 2K and a new Mario game.  Again, I think Nintendo learned from the mistakes of the Wii U that without publishers being on board, the console is doomed to fail.  With the lineup of publishers creating content for this new console, it stands a good shot for being a success.

While Nintendo has been a bit secretive on the details of the new Switch console, they did state that the information would be released prior to the March 2017 release.  We are hoping to know more in January of 2017, but it all depends on Nintendo to release more details.
